Tachykinin family
TK
SMART accession number:SM00203
Description: Tachykinins are a group of biologically active peptides which excite neurons, evoke behavioral responses, are potent vasodilatators and contract (directly or indirectly) many smooth muscles. These peptides are synthesized as longer precursors and then processed to peptides from ten to twelve residues long.
Interpro abstract (IPR008215):

Tachykinins [ (PUBMED:3284438) (PUBMED:1969374) (PUBMED:1324401) ] are a group of biologically active peptides which excite neurons, evoke behavioral responses, are potent vasodilatators and contract (directly or indirectly) many smooth muscles. This family includes many other peptides. Tachykinins, like most other active peptides, are synthesized as larger protein precursors, protachykinins, that are enzymatically converted to their mature forms. Tachykinins are from ten to twelve residues long.
